We would prefer a court yard / water view, 3rd floor and above. We will consider other locations. We are here at Kauhale Makai until the end of April, 2008 and would like to finalize a condo rental before we head back to Wisconsin.

Maui Laws on Short Term Vacation Rentals.

Chapter 521 HRS Rental Agreement; Disclosure - Section 43. D. Absentee Landlord's Agent. An absentee landlord shall designate an agent to act on the landlord's behalf. The agent must reside on the same island as the rental unit.

The primary purpose of this section is to enable a tenant to communicate with someone on island in the absence of the owner. If the “on-island agent” is not compensated financially, the agent need not be licensed as a real estate agent.  If the on-island agent is compensated, the agent must be a licensed real estate agent. (HRS Section 467-7).

The landlord is responsible for:

  • Remitting a $15.00 Registration Fee to Kauhale Makai;
  • Collecting and remitting applicable state taxes:

Transient Accommodations Tax

Hawaii State Tax
