We cannot accept listings unless the owner provides in his listing:
- The amount of the charge for the Registration Fee to be paid to Kauhale Makai (As at April, 2008 this was $15.00 per rental);
- The taxes payable on the rental which as at April, 2008 was 11.25%;
- The name of an on island agent who the renter can go to if he has any problems. This can be provided to us privately and without publication here to avoid the problem of other renters going to that person for problems for which that person is not the agent.

Chapter 521 HRS Rental Agreement; Disclosure - Section 43. D. Absentee Landlord's Agent. An absentee landlord shall designate an agent to
act on the landlord's behalf. The agent must reside on the same island as the
rental unit.
The primary purpose of this section is to enable a tenant to communicate with someone on island in the absence of the owner. If the “on-island agent” is not compensated financially, the agent need not be licensed as a real estate agent. If the on-island agent is compensated, the agent must be a licensed real estate agent. (HRS Section 467-7).
The landlord is responsible for:
- Remitting a $15.00 Registration Fee to Kauhale Makai;
- Collecting and remitting applicable state taxes = 11.416%.
